Fire trolls...just because

In the words of the original Dungeon Master, Rob:

It started in error. After one too many bad puns by…I don't remember, but I'm guessing it was Troy, I said, "That's it…five fire trolls show up and eat you. You're dead."

The appropriate response was given…"What's a fire troll?"

It was just a slip of the tongue. I'm sure that I meant to say fire giants or something of that nature, but "troll" is what rolled off of my lips.

And so it began…the threat of fire trolls was out there. Only time would tell what would come.

Turns out that The Fire Trolls ended up being a band of assassins I used in a pretty slick encounter/dream sequence. Much fun.

Anyway, that's the Fire Trolls story. A game element created completely by accident.

However, it turns out that "fire trolls" really exist in mythology and in D&D. I happened upon a discussion on the Wizards of the Coast boards, but of course that's all gone. Luckily we preserved the stats that someone had posted for the creatures:

Fire Trolls walk upright but hunched forward with sagging shoulders. Their gait is uneven, and when they run, their arms dangle and drag along the ground. For all this seeming awkwardness, fire trolls are very agile.
A typical adult troll stands 9 feet tall and weighs 500 pounds. Females are slightly larger than males. A troll’s rocky course hide is the color of volcanic rock with traces of red and orange. They tend to be hairless.
Fire Trolls speak the same language as Fire Giants.
Fire Trolls have no fear of death: They launch themselves into combat without hesitation, flailing wildly at the closest opponent.
Rend (Ex)
If a fire troll hits with both claw attacks, it latches onto the opponent’s body and tears the flesh. This attack automatically deals an additional 2d6+9 points of damage.
Regeneration (Ex)
Cold and acid deal normal damage to a fire troll. If a troll loses a limb or body part, the lost portion regrows in 3d6 minutes. The creature can reattach the severed member instantly by holding it to the stump.
